The best time to visit Kaokoland is during the dry season from May to October when temperatures are cooler, and wildlife is easier to spot around water sources. The days are pleasantly warm, while nights can be chilly, especially in the desert areas. This period also offers the best road conditions, making the region more accessible for self-drive adventures. From November to April, the wet season brings dramatic landscapes with occasional rains, but it can make some routes impassable. If you’re after remote, untouched beauty with fewer travellers around, shoulder months like May and September offer the best of both worlds.
