A relaxed and charming lodge at the foot of the Drakensberg Mountains

Nestled at the base of the mighty and lush Drakensberg mountains in KwaZulu-Natal is the bespoke Three Tree Hill Lodge. The lodge embodies the charm and relaxed atmosphere of its verdant surroundings — making it a fantastic base from which to explore the natural wonder of the area on horseback, mountain bike or foot. The lodge is also serious about sustainability, and is involved in various initiatives that benefit the local communities and businesses. The lodge has an on-site vegetable garden, and is working to restore the area’s natural biodiversity with the help of a native tree nursery. Three Tree Hill also conserves energy and water, and waste materials are also responsibly managed.

The KwaZulu-Natal part of the Drakensberg in South Africa experiences a very mild climate. During spring and autumn, Drakensberg’s weather is particularly pleasant. The days are warm and clear, and the nights are cool. However, it can be sweltering in the summer months that run from October through March, reaching temperatures above 30°C and dropping to chilly lows below 0°C. The winter months, running from April to August, are dry with the occasional snowstorm and frost. Ensure that you’re properly equipped if you are hiking in the high mountains.
