Swellendam
About the area
It’s a little-known detail that the fairly unfamiliar South African town of Swellendam is, in fact, the 3rd oldest in the country. It’s also hugely significant to the heritage of South Africa with more than 50 provincial heritage sites, which largely comprise of iconic Dutch colonial architecture. Today, along the Main Road, the historic town blooms into a bustling centre of activity that nestles up to the Langeberg mountain with several quaint shops and restaurants worth visiting.
