Akagera National Park is Central Africa’s largest protected wetland and a last-of-its-kind sanctuary for savannah-adapted animal species in Rwanda. A revival success story, Akagera has been transformed into an income-generating park that benefits the local communities and proliferates wildlife populations. With its name originating from the Kagera River, this wildlife reserve is predominantly made up of swamps and lakes located in north-eastern Rwanda at the Tanzanian border. Displaying classic Rwandan scenery, its astonishing ecosystem encompasses rolling hills, extensive plains, and varying forests inhabited by diverse wildlife, especially large mammals and bountiful birdlife.

Best time to go to Akagera National Park
The climate in Akagera National Park is tropical and humid. The best time to visit Akagera National Park is during 1 of the 2 the dry seasons, the first is from June to September and the second from December to February. This is when the animals are most active and the weather is the most pleasant. The wet seasons run from October to November and March to May, and this is when the park is at its most lush, though the rainfall can make it difficult to access certain parts of the park.
