Northern Namibia

About the area

Northern Namibia is known for its colourful local cultures, quirky cuka shops and lively inhabitants. Encompassing the area north of Etosha National Park and up towards the border with Angola, Northern Namibia has traditionally been the home of the Ovambo people, with its capital in Oshakati. A visit to the north is not complete without checking out one of the open-air markets, where you can sample dried mopane worms, a favourite local snack, or crack open an ice-cold beer alongside a plate of kapana (strips of barbequed meat).
