About the area

Namib-Naukluft National Park covers an area of nearly 50.000 square kilometres and is the largest conservation area in Namibia, and the fifth largest in Africa! The landscape is diverse with gravel plains, sandy desert, canyons, and mountains. The national park is best-known for the desert dunes of Sossusvlei set within the heart of the area. Every 5 to 10 years, the Tsauchab River flows through this section of the Namib Desert, moulding this iconic pan. Here, visitors can see dunes up to 300-meters tall!
