Centred around one of the oldest rainforests in Africa, Nyungwe Forest National Park is a lush mountainous area that is teeming with wildlife and is rich in biodiversity. The park is home to a small population of chimpanzees, as well as L’Hoest’s monkeys, which are endemic to the Albertine Rift. Nyungwe has more than 75 known mammal species, 322 bird species, and 1.068 plant species, including 140 types of orchids. Visitors can enjoy a variety of walking and hiking trails to explore, taking in the stunning natural beauty of the rainforest-like surroundings.

Best time to go to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Nyungwe Forest National Park is a destination that is best visited during either of the 2 dry seasons when rainfall is lower, and activities are therefore less likely to be interrupted. The first dry season runs from June to September, while the short one is from mid-December to mid-February. The short dry season can feature a few rain showers, though, so come prepared with waterproof outer layers, especially if you plan on hiking through the forest.
