Katavi National Park offers a unique and uninterrupted wildlife experience in Tanzania’s western region. The park is one of the least visited and least developed parks in the country and, due to its remote location, is largely undisturbed by humans. This means a visit to the park is sure to offer an amazing off-the-beaten-path wildlife experience. Katavi is populated with large herds of elephants, lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, and more, as well as a wide variety of birds, including kingfishers, pelicans, and storks, across scenic landscapes of rock outcrops, open grasslands, and wooded riverbanks teeming with crocodiles and hippos.

Best time to go to Katavi National Park
The park is at its best during the dry season between late June and October, when the weather is mostly rain-free and the days are sunny. This is also the best time for game viewing as the bush is less dense, and animals are more likely to congregate around waterholes. December and January mean baby animals aplenty, with increased predator activity, although rainfall is more likely. There are usually rains in November before the proper rainy season starts in April and continues through to May.
