A hospitable and convenient tourism hub, Hoedspruit is considered by many to be the safari capital of South Africa. Found in the central Lowveld area at the foot of the Klein Drakensberg, the town is a short drive from the renowned Blyde River Canyon, and is a gateway to the Kruger National Park and several private game reserves in the area. Hoedspruit is also a centre of nature conservation, with wildlife education, research activities, and wildlife protection as focal points in the town’s conservation operations. The best time to visit Hoedspruit is during the dry winter months between June and August, when wildlife viewing is at its best. The coolest month is July and during this time, visitors can expect chilly mornings and evenings. Hoedspruit has a savannah climate with lots of sunny days throughout the year, and a summer season extending from November to March. The hottest months are December, January and February, presenting afternoon thunderstorms and temperatures that can rise to 40ºC.
