The Central Serengeti is the beating heart of Serengeti National Park, and for many travellers it’s the place that defines a classic Tanzania safari. Anchored by the Seronera Valley, the area is a year-round hub of wildlife thanks to its rivers, grasslands, and rocky kopjes that provide shelter and hunting grounds for predators. This is one of the best places in Africa to see big cats. Lions sprawl across the kopjes, leopards drape themselves in acacia trees, and cheetahs scan the Serengeti plains for prey. The density of predators here makes game drives in the Central Serengeti some of the most rewarding on the continent, with regular sightings of dramatic predator action. Between April and June, and again in October and November, the Great Migration passes through the central region, bringing massive herds of wildebeest and zebras. Accommodation ranges from mid-range camps to luxury safari camps, such as Nimali, with many lodges in the central region of Serengeti National Park offering prime access to the action. Best time to go to Central Serengeti
The best time to visit the Central Serengeti depends on what you want to see and experience. From April to June and October to November, the great migration passes through, filling the plains with wildebeest and zebra. Predator action is especially intense as big cats follow the herds. That said, the central region is excellent year-round thanks to resident wildlife and permanent water sources around Seronera, making it the most reliable part of the park for safari. For travellers focused on big cats and classic Serengeti safaris, any season delivers, while migration months add the drama of mass herds on the move.
