Found in the northwestern part of Rwanda, those who venture to Volcanoes National Park will be amazed by the mountainous landscape and verdant forests but even more so by the animals that make a home in this rich ecosystem. Endangered mountain gorillas and other rare species like golden monkeys live in this park harmoniously thanks to conservation efforts to restore the area’s wild inhabitants. Volcanoes National Park protects the steep rainforested slopes of the Virunga mountain range, and a portion of the revenue collected goes towards the local communities surrounding the park.

Best time to go to Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park experiences 2 distinct rainy seasons. The first runs from September to November and the second from March to May, with the heaviest rains occurring during the latter. The best time to visit Volcanoes National Park is during the 2 dry seasons, which run from December to January and June to August. During these months there is great wildlife viewing and this is also when one can track the mountain gorillas, as the terrain is much easier to traverse during this time. The dry season also offers the best weather conditions, with sunny days and minimal rainfall.
