Sesriem is a small desert settlement near the southern reaches of the Naukluft Mountains. The outpost situated in the heart of the Namib Desert is a great access point for visitors to explore the Namib-Naukluft National Park. However, Sesriem is most famous for its exquisite and unique canyon. The Tsauchab River has shaped the Sesriem Canyon over a period of millions of years and it is one of the few places in the area that holds water all year round. Sesriem is a great place to stay awhile and explore the surroundings, or to pitstop and grab the essentials.

The best time to travel to Sesriem is between May and September—this marks the fall and winter months in Namibia. Thus, it is less hot and more comfortable for visitors during the day. However, between July and November the area experiences its high season which causes it to be busier and more expensive to venture to Sesriem. Visitors looking for low-season rates should consider visiting between December and June, however this is the period with the highest temperatures.
