I grew up in Kenya, and although now settled in Surrey, I regularly return 'home' to visit family and friends. The north coast, where our Sandals are made, boasts a combination of beautiful beaches, friendly people and a relaxed atmosphere.

On each visit my wife Nikki, would always buy more of the colourful leather beaded sandals for herself and as presents for family and friends. Everybody loved them, and so we decided to import them into England for others to enjoy.

In 2005 we started Viatu, (Swahili for shoe), selling over 300 pairs in local shops, markets and on ebay. In 2006 we launched this web site to promote our new range. We have carefully chosen our colours and designs to offer original, colourful, comfortable, fun flipflop/sandals that are still true to their source.

In 2007 we made a ‘wrap over’ style using cowrie shells for those who find a thong between their toes uncomfortable. Although not illustrated here, we do keep a stock, and can easily send pictures and details. For 2008 we have the new Pemba design, including a pair in neutral colours as requested by so many. We continue with our Kilifi range which is as popular as ever.
